“Chique” Drink: SodaStream
Happy Monday, I hope all of you had a relaxing weekend. So excited to share with you an amazing product called SodaStream. As a new member of the Chicago Blogger Network, I was invited as a Trade Guest to the International Home & Housewares Show to visit the SodaStream showroom. I did a little research on the product, but had no idea what I was in for; what a treat. As some of you know, I can’t live without my morning Latte, but for the most part after my am caffeine fix, I stick with H2O all day. Usually the kind with bubbles, I love sparkling water. I add lemon, orange, lime, cucumber and even ginger just to shake things up a bit. But what I hate are all the cans and the money spent on “designer” water. I keep a recycled bottle of tap water in the fridge for the boys and when I don’t have any bubbly water, I, too, drink tap. I know, for all of you who know me from my earlier days, you are saying, “What? You drink tap water?”. Well, I regress, so here is the cool part.
SodaStream turns regular tap water (you can use filtered too) into sparkling water within seconds. The machine is battery free and Eco-friendly. Not only will it save you tons of money and keep mother earth free of waste, it is healthy too! Personally, I don’t need to add flavors, because I prefer to just add a piece of fresh citrus to my bubbly water. If you like soda, this is a perfect solution so you can kick that horrible habit. They offer hundreds of options so you can customize your own healthy soda. No high fructose corn syrup, no aspartame and the special reusable bottles will keep it fresh for days. Brilliant, really.
In fact, I have been looking for an old fashion seltzer bottle that my mom used to have back in the day. It was a cool retro wire covered soda siphon which used CO2 cartridges so she could “spritz” her wine in the 80’s! We have looked everywhere but to no avail, so I think it is apropos that I have now discovered SodaStream. The perfect solution and maybe now I can convince Matt to kick the can, since his only vice is the toxic Diet Coke!
To top it all off, Jillian Michaels was a special guest speaker at the SodaStream booth on Saturday. I don’t watch much TV, but I do know who she is, so it was great to meet her in person. Jillian is super approachable and an inspiration for anyone wanting to make a lifestyle change. She too is a SodaStream user, but she discovered it by accident. Listening to her story was encouraging, but the best part was when she answered a question from the audience. Someone asked her “What are your top 3 tips for living healthy?”.
Jillian proceeded to give us the answers I expected, well, sort of. Her first piece of advice was portion control; don’t deny yourself entirely of things you love, just don’t binge. Great advice and one I believe in; moderation is key. Secondly, she told us to get plenty of sleep (7 to 8 hours) as that is when your body rejuvenates and cells regenerate themselves. I smiled, yes, I get plenty of sleep, so I was two for two! As expected she told us to move our bodies; whether it meant hiking with our dogs, biking or working out at the gym, it is imperative that we don’t stay stagnate. Well, I may not do Cardio, but I do get points for Pilates & Yoga. She continued, even though she was asked for her top 3, she couldn’t resist giving us a few more tips. Appropriately, sitting in the gorgeous SodaStream booth, she told us to stay hydrated. Drinking enough water was key to keeping fit; I do drink plenty of liquids but I do know that when a headache sets in, it is usually because I haven’t had enough water. Lastly, just in the nick of time, as she was being escorted out to catch her plane, she shouted, “Have Sex! It is great for your body and your health!”. Of course, the crowd roared and I giggled knowing that my husband would love that advice.
Now, I am secretly hoping to win one of the 5 SodaStream machines Jillian is giving away to her Twitter followers, but if I’m not a lucky winner, I will be adding it to my Birthday wish list. Saving money while saving the environment, now that is “Chique”. Do any of you have a SodaStream at home and if so what model? Would love to hear your thoughts. Until next time, keep fit!
