“Chique” Event: Met Gala

The Met Gala is to fashion what the Academy Awards are to movies. It is the party of the the year where media moguls, rock stars, models, designers and actors all come together to celebrate the fashion industry. What can be more glamorous than Anna Wintour, Mick Jagger, Heidi Klum, Valentino and Cate Blanchett all on the red carpet together?

Historically, the styles at the Met Gala are extravagant and last night was no exception. Lace, metallic fabrics, color and peplum were a plenty, but the trends I loved most were the feathers, the low cut backs and the hues of purple. Of course, there was a plethora of Prada ascending the staircase because the event honored the Costume Institute’s exhibit Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.

Diane Kruger’s deep violet Prada gown was breathtaking. The combination of a simple slip dress adorned with an elaborate feather hem literally swept the red carpet. In a sea of long dresses, Gwyneth Paltrow’s risque lilac Prada mini not only showed off her Pilates toned legs, but stood out in the crowd. I especially loved the oversized pailette pockets.

The right shade of purple can be so powerful and both the deep violet and light lilac were a refreshing change on the red carpet. Both so very “Chique”. Who was your favorite? Check out the after party pics here for more inspiration!
