“Chique” Kid Friendly Culture

I am a city girl at heart.  Raising a family in Chicago has offered us so many opportunities. Yes the hustle and bustle can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, but we thrive on that energy! Especially, since we have access to endless amounts of culture: amazing museums, galleries, theaters, restaurants, music and much more.

We just recently took the boys to their first concert at Symphony Hall. Such rich history just in the building itself, not to mention the home of one of the finest Orchestras around. Founded in 1891, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is consistently named one of the greatest orchestras in the world. How lucky are we to experience it first hand?

Thanks, Greeny, for treating us to the tickets! The gift was in honor of Matt’s Dad, Brendan, who was an avid classical music fan. He could identify any piece and the conductor in the first bar. Matt obviously inherited that same love of classical music as it runs deep in his soul and now Parker & PJ are starting to understand why.

We have been to two Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts so far this year. You can read about it from Parker’s perspective here, on his blog, Parkeripedia. But, from a parent’s point of view, I am thrilled that the CSO remains true to their art, easily engaging the children, but they keep the adults wanting more.  Both boys sat there captivated the entire time! The perfect way to expose our children to the variety of culture we offer in Chicago.

Our next concert is “Time to Play” on December 8th. Just when you think it can’t get any better, this concert will use cutting-edge image magnification technology to give us an up-close and personal look at all the instruments and musicians of the orchestra. We are also invited to pre-concert activities, including performances by students from local community music schools, composition activities with musicians from the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, an Instrument Petting Zoo and visual art activities presented by the Art Institute of Chicago.

Wow, life in the city with kids, can’t get much more “Chique” than this! Want to join us? I believe there are still tickets available here. A great way to kick off the holiday season with some real “cheer”!
