“Chique” Tip: Green Your Beauty Routine
As some of you know I have been trying to take my beauty routine “green”. It all started with my Baking Soda Scrub and then it progressed to the Oil Cleansing Method and now this: Apple Cider Vinegar Toner. I have never been a big believer in using toner as it always seemed like a wasted step in my lengthy regime. But, after reading a great post by Natalie Holbrook on her blog, I was inspired to do more research. It is truly amazing the natural cosmetics you can find in your kitchen cupboard. I make the best coleslaw (recipe will follow as it is a summer staple) with apple cider vinegar, but who knew it would act as a skincare staple.
ACV neutralizes my skin’s ph balance, helps release toxins plus softens and exfoliates the skin. Just mix a 1:1 ratio of water and Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar “with the Mother” as the raw, unpasteurized, living enzymes are what you need to retain the full benefits. I put mine in an old medicine jar with a dropper, so I can easily dispense on a cotton ball after I cleanse my face. Please beware, ACV does not leave a pleasant odor on your skin, but it doesn’t last all day. I believe the pros outweigh the stinky con, as I have noticed an incredible difference in my skin since using it three times a week in the morning and at night.
In fact, the other morning we were driving to school on a damp dark day sitting in traffic and Parker exclaimed, “I can just smell the depression in the air”. I thought to myself, quite a profound statement for a nine year old. I paused for a moment contemplating his comment and then bashfully replied “Are you sure that isn’t my Apple Cider Vinegar Toner you are smelling?”. He leaned over, took a whiff and grimaced “Oh, that is what stinks!”. Oh so very “UnChique” to smell like rotten apples, but oh so very “Chique” to nurture your complexion!
